Duration: 4½ hours
The first art gallery in Europe and one of the first in the world was founded on the Acropolis during the Golden Era of Pericles around 450 BC. Greek artists introduced the techniques of perspective, motion and established forms, which are still considered the basics of fine art. It is only appropriate that you be introduced to the form classic art and design in this very place. You will have the opportunity to appreciate works of art with the help of an expert and try your hand at sketching and drawing some of the classics of history and not only. Be in the unique position to actually look at the Parthenon or the temple of Olympian Zeus and be guided through the techniques of drawing by your art instructor. You will leave your hotel and drive to the Acropolis subway station, which was opened in November 2000. This station is a living museum, at the base of the Acropolis, of the finds in the vicinity of the Acropolis as well as of parts of the Parthenon. The finds (most of which are exact copies, for safety purposes), are very well exhibited forming this mini-museum. Here your expert will guide you through the various forms of art. The highlight of this visit is the Pediment of the Parthenon where you will be shown the use of perspective, the axis and the use of reflection on the marble. At the same time your instructor will brief you on the various techniques of pencil drawing, shadow and perspective. After your visit you will enter the old part of the city called the Plaka and explore the narrow streets with picturesque houses dating one, two or more centuries. Here will be your first stop in order to draw some of the scenes with the hill of the Acropolis towering above. Your instructor will be with you all the time in order to guide you through your first attempt at sketching a Greek scene. From here you will walk past the ancient theatre of Herod Atticus to the base of the hill of the Muses, also known as Philopapou and walk up to a vantage point from where you will have a magnificent view of the classic of all times, the Parthenon. After about one hour of drawing you will join your transportation for the drive back to your hotel
