Departing from the pier on a tour exploring the history of Crete by visiting the legendary ruins of Knossos. After a short drive through the town of Heraklion you will arrive at Knossos. Here, Sir Arthur Evans's archaeological discoveries revealed a civilization dating back to 4000 BC, when a great empire flourished on the island of Crete. Based on the wealth of artifacts found, Evans theorized that this was the site of the ancient Minoan Kingdom. These findings will be viewed in detail as an expert guide will lead you on a journey of discovery to learn of the sophisticated culture that flourished thousands of years ago on this island. The partially reconstructed Palace of Minos which occupies an extensive area on the ridge of a low hill, includes magnificent pillared flights of stairs, a number of rooms, courts, and the famous Throne -Room of the oldest kingdom in Europe. After the visit, return to Heraklion where you may choose to remain in town for a little exploration or shopping on your own, returning to the ship later at your own expense, or remain on the coach and return directly back to the ship.
